  20. I am trying to get my 520 upgraded.  I am not too familiar with the innards
  21. of my machine, and after talking with some dealers I am even more confused.
  22.  
  23. 1)  Can the ease of upgrading the memory be dependent on which version of
  24.     TOS I am running, or are these entirely separate issues?
  25.  
  26. 2)  One dealer says it will take three weeks, another says it takes an
  27.     hour (and his cost is better too.)  However, after 6 weeks the chips
  28.     are not in yet.  Other dealers confirm that the chips are hard to
  29.     get.  There is no dealer in the S.F. Bay Area that can do the work
  30.     *now*, mainly because the chips are not available.  Is this normal?
  31.  
  32. 3)  One dealer said that in  January there will be a board that will
  33.     accept plug-in memory chips.  Is this really true?  Will it really
  34.     be in January (1990)?
  35.  
  36. 4)  Where can I get the chips, assuming I will have to get them myself,
  37.     and dealers don't have them?
  38.  
  39. 5)  What sorts of things can go wrong during this procedure, and how can
  40.     I test it afterwards?  (I assume by reading & writing to the highest
  41.     memory location???)  I am conversant in assembler if the answer to
  42.     this requires such.

  64. I have two versions up for anonymous FTP from xanth.cs.odu.edu.
  65. One version is a zip, the other is a compressed and tarred directory
  66. of the files AFTER they have been unzipped.  I used a UNIX unzip since
  67. I didnt have unzip for the ST.  Although I THOUGHT .zip files were
  68. self extracting archives.  Nevertheless, there are two versions for FTP.

  88. The Dutch company "DIVO Computer supplies" sels a complete FAX-pakkage for the A
  89. tari ST. The full GEM-Based software will let you send ASCII and First-Word(+)
  90. documents including all styles like bold, italic, underlined.
  91. You can load several fonts, so every-one should be able to make is own font if
  92. nececary.
  93. You can load all kind of pictures like Degas, Doodle and IMG's.
  94. As a special feature, you can send Pages made by the DTP-Program Calamus.

  120. I'm now the proud owner of an SM124 monitor (I can use Unix Windows!) and
  121. would like to tweak the monitor so the display fills up more of the screen.
  122. The one-inch margins are a bit ridiculous.

  151. I use D&S. it comes with GDOS 1.0, but is not compatible with it.
  152. Printing suddenly came to life when I get GDOS 1.1 with another program.

  154. So, either find GDOS 1.1, or try G+ (whatever), the gdos replacement.

  207. Although I agree with this, my original posting on the subject was confined
  208. to the question of whether specific site distribution restrictions were
  209. enforceable.  Here I would use an alternate analogy, that of a broadcast
  210. TV station that wishes to prohibit people on odd sides of the street from
  211. viewing their transmissions.  Clearly such site restrictions are laughable
  212. and could never be enforced, practially or legally.  Broadcasting over the
  213. airwaves or over USENET is, in principle, the same thing.  If you want to
  214. narrow cast to preserve your right of distribution selection, you have to
  215. find means other than standard TV channels or USENET newsgroups.
